The Pocatello immigrant Greek population was the largest in the state at the turn of the 20th century due to the employment opportunities in the railroad and livestock industries. The Assumption Orthodox church was constructed in 1915 and has served as educational, religious, and a social focal point of the immigrant Greek community for the last 100 years. Constructed in the Byzantine Revival style the church remains as the oldest example of Greek Church architecture in the state today and the 5th oldest Orthodox Church in America. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
